Hiking is one of those summer activities that is good for the mind body and soul. Though bringing your dog along is fun, depending on the time of day it may be too hot for them. Early morning or late evening hikes are the ideal time to bring your dog along. Even during cooler hours, be sure to bring lots of water and shade to help prevent heatstroke and dehydration.
Make sure your monthly flea, tick and heart-worm medications are up to date. Pests flourish in the heat and can transmit some nasty diseases so make sure you’re giving monthly treatments on time. Stagnant water like puddles, lakes and sometimes oceans can hide microscopic parasites, some of which can be protected against by products like Trifexis and Sentinel. Be sure to provide lots of clean fresh water to avoid your pup looking for water in unsavory places.
